Dear Members

The Jersey Funds Association (JFA) will be hosting its annual Regulatory & Compliance Masterclass on 17 September 2024 at the Royal Yacht Hotel, St Helier. The event will begin with registration at 8:00 AM, followed by the official start at 8:30 AM.

The event will be structured into two parts:

  • The first half will feature keynote presentations from our esteemed speakers.
  • The second half will transition into interactive panel discussions, allowing you to engage with our panelists and explore the topics in greater depth.

We are delighted to be joined by guest speakers:

Harriet Miller, a Partner from Macfarlanes LLP, London, who will share insights on off-island developments.

 Harriet’s focus relates to all aspects of private funds. This includes the structuring and fundraising of a variety of different products from traditional blind pool investment vehicles to managed accounts and co-investment vehicles domiciled in a diverse number of jurisdictions, assisting institutional investors review and negotiate fund investments, advising on team incentive arrangements and all wider elements relating to operating a private funds business.

She spent six months in the US on secondment with a leading US law firm. During her secondment, she assisted various institutional investors, including State pension plans, on investments in private funds and spoke at angel investing and VC events on key legal considerations for start-up businesses. Harriet has also spent three months on secondment at both Old Mutual Global Investors and Skandia Investment Group.

Harriet was recognised by Law.comInternational in its Female Rising Star 2024 list.

Matt McManus, a Partner from Ogier, Jersey, who will share insight on local perspective.  

Matt is an investment funds and regulatory specialist. He has extensive experience advising a range of sponsors and service providers across all aspects of a fund's lifecycle, on related corporate matters, and on co-investment, joint venture and carry structures. He also specialises in non-contentious regulatory matters, and is part of Ogier's sector groups focusing on Real Estate, Private Equity, and Technology and Web3.Matt is a Jersey Advocate and possesses an internationally-recognised qualification in Islamic Finance.

For the panel discuss, our speakers will be join by Jon Stevens, Deputy Managing Director from Mourant Consulting and a representative from the Government of Jersey.  

Prior to joining Mourant Consulting Jon was an Executive Director of Head of Risk and Compliance at a regulated fund and trust business in Jersey, and before that was the Director of Policy at the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC).

In his time at the JFSC he worked in various roles across the range of regulated sectors in Jersey. He also worked closely with colleagues in Government, and at other regulators in the UK and Crown Dependencies.

Jon have also worked for Big Four accountancy firms specialising in audit, assurance and advisory work, with a focus on regulatory compliance.
